Reasons Why Auto Glass Repair is Important
Your windshield is an integral part of your vehicle's structural integrity. In a rollover accident, the windshield protects you from being crushed by the weight of your vehicle. In a front-end collision, it reduces the risk of serious injury or ejection.
Windshield Repair Prevents Serious Injury
If your windshield is cracked, you are more likely to sustain serious or life-threatening injuries in an accident. Aside from the impact cracks have on the integrity of your vehicle, they can also lead to ineffective airbag deployment and leave your windshield vulnerable to shattering on impact. A cracked windshield can also reduce your visibility while driving, increasing the probability of an accident.
Auto Glass Repair Estimate
If a windshield repair will cost more than $100, you have the right to choose from three options:
- Request a written estimate
- Be notified by us if the repair exceeds a specific amount
- Or not receive a written estimate.
If you opt for a written estimate, we will give a copy of our comprehensive estimate. Among other requirements, free auto glass repair estimates include:
- Your request
- Proposed completion date
- Estimated cost of auto glass repair, labor, parts, and other charges
- Terms of our windshield repair parts and service guarantee
- Whether or not you want replaced items returned to you
Auto Glass Repair Invoice
You have the right to a comprehensive invoice that details the work done, cost of labor and parts, nature of parts, and our auto glass no leak warranty.
Florida Windshield Regulations
While Florida does not have specific laws for windshield repair, it has implemented several regulations for automotive windshields. Failure to comply with the state regulations may result in a ticket, often at the discretion of the responding officer.
Auto Glass Features Required by Florida Law
Windshield Safety glazing
Your windshield must have federally-sanctioned safety glazing. Safety glazing makes your windshield resistant to chips and cracks and makes the auto glass less dangerous when broken.
Windshield Position
Windshields must be in a fixed, upright position.
Windshield Wipers
Your windshield must be equipped with fully operational windshield wipers.
Auto Glass Items Not Allowed by Florida Law?
Windshield Obstructions
You are not allowed to have stickers or signage on your windshield other than required papers/certificates. You are not allowed to have any devices that obstruct your view attached to your windshield.
Front Windshield Window Tinting
Tinting your windshield is not permissible except for at the top of the windshield. Any tinting at the top of the windshield cannot obstruct your view.
Windshield Cracks
Cracks three-quarter inch in diameter or smaller that are not within three inches of another windshield crack are legal as long as they are not directly positioned in the driver's view. Any cracks that obstruct your view are not allowed and should be repaired as soon as possible.
