Ripoff #1: Unbelievably Low Price.
To some degree, all of us are attracted to low prices. Professional automobile electronics companies use reliable name brand products that are high in quality, but are not necessarily the lowest in price. Unfortunately, there is a lot of low quality products available that sell at a much cheaper price. Some shops tend to sell the lower quality cheap products to save money. Poor quality products tend to malfunction and usually come with a very short-term warranty. The best way to protect yourself against this type of rip-off is ask to see a written copy of the warranty, find out exactly what it covers and for how long.
Ripoff #2: Bait And Switch.
Some companies use the price as the bait for their false and misleading advertising. They offer a cheap price then once you’re in their store, they tell you the price quoted was for a system they wouldn’t want on their own car, let alone yours. You may then get pressured into paying more than you originally thought you’d have to. Professional quality vehicle security and remote starters that will provide you with years of trouble free enjoyment and convenience are inexpensive when you consider all the benefits. Protect yourself by visiting the shop and asking for a demonstration, as well as getting a quote for your vehicle in writing.
Ripoff # 3: Unsupported Claims. "Our Car Alarms/Remote Starters Are The Best."
You’ll read this in almost every ad. You’ll hear this from almost every company. The product and company that’s right for you is the one that will give you the best value for your money. Protect yourself by asking questions, and to see some of their work. Find out if they have one of their units installed in their own personal vehicle. Ask for a demonstration. Ask for testimonials from past clients. What past customers say about them is far more important than what they say about themselves.
Ripoff #4: "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" Type Shops.
There are shops that will install the cheapest product on your vehicle at the maximum price you’ll pay, with a "too good to be true" lifetime guarantee, then leaving you stuck when you do have a problem. Minimize your risk when purchasing a car alarm or remote starter, visit the store, find out how long they have been in business, how many years have they been installing this particular brand, why they like it and what their track record is. Do they look professional and appear like they’ll be around to help you in a year or so? If they don’t, they probably won’t be.
